Serrano students participate in National Girls and Women in Sports day

Serrano Middle School partcipated in the National Girls & Women in Sports Day

Each year thousands of educators, coaches, students and parents across the country show their support for girls and women in sports by participating in National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) by organizing and supporting various events across the country.  NGWSD recognizes the ongoing effort towards equality and access for women in sports and the nation’s commitment to expand sport and participation opportunities for all girls and future generations.

As part of the effort to continue support, on Saturday, October 27, students from Serrano Middle School continued a more than decade long tradition of going to Pomona College to participate in National Girls and Women in Sports Day activities. The evening began with students hearing inspirational words from former athlete and Serrano teacher, Ms. Moreno. They were also privy to meeting and listening to words of motivation from Lesley Irvine, Pomona-Pitzer’s Athletic Director. Later they were the guests of honor for Pomona-Pitzer’s Women’s Volleyball team’s Senior Night game versus the University of La Verne. At the conclusion of the game students met with players, got autographs and took pictures.  Students enjoyed the event and look forward to the upcoming NGWSD event in a few months.
