OMSD's Food & Nutrition Services Department Awarded USDA 2018 Western Region Summer Sunshine Award
The Ontario-Montclair School District (OMSD) is pleased to announce that our outstanding Food and Nutrition Services Department is a recipient of the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) 2018 Western Region Summer Sunshine Award for the category,Excellence in Community Partnerships. The Summer Sunshine Awards recognize sponsors who operate exemplary summer meals programs.
The USDA celebrated and acknowledged the successes of OMSD in collaborating with the City of Ontario and Hope Through Housing to increase feeding locations at parks and the public library. The USDA noted that OMSD’s focus on collaboration and meeting children where they are, while offering education and recreational programs to students is a purposeful and laudable approach to reducing food insecurity in the summer months. By encouraging parents and families to bring their children, siblings, and friends to receive free breakfasts and lunches, the School District served an impressive 57,000 meals this summer. OMSD provides free breakfast for all students, free or low price lunches and free supper to students during the regular school year.
