OMSD - Music Students visit Cal Poly University

Ontario-Montclair School District's Music Students Visit Cal Poly University

The Ontario-Montclair School District’s Music Department arranged an experience for sixth graders across the district to attend a Music Festivals hosted by Cal Poly University on February 20th and February 21st of 2019. One hundred sixth graders had the opportunity to experience music at the university level. The Ontario-Montclair School District young musicians learned rehearsing techniques, wrote a reflection piece of their experience at the festival, and performed music on a stage hall while being directed by a college professor.

The sixth grade students then toured the music department, library and campus.  During the tour of the campus, our sixth graders were exposed to college students and professors working in the music department.  Students visited the computer composition lab, practice rooms, a large rehearsal hall, classrooms and the piano lab.

Together the Ontario-Montclair School District and Cal Poly University music teachers encouraged the 6th graders to realize their artistic potential by inspiring them to continue in music programs.  Students were encouraged to strive for the future.
