Oaks, Serrano, & Vernon Middle Schools awarded AVID Site of Distinction, 2nd year in a row!
Oaks, Serrano, and Vernon Middle Schools Receive Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Site of Distinction Award
For the second year, the AVID Center awarded Oaks, Serrano and Vernon Middle Schools the AVID Site of Distinction. AVID is school-wide, when a strong AVID system transforms the Instruction, Systems, Leadership, and Culture of a school, ensuring college readiness for all AVID students and improved academic performance for all students based on increased opportunities. Sites earn this prestigious award by meeting three Process Metrics and two Impact Metrics to implement AVID strategies school-wide.
The Process Metrics to achieve Site of Distinction are:
60 percent or more of teachers are AVID trained;
70 percent or more of teachers are routinely using Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading (WICOR) strategies; and
50 percent or more of teachers are both on the Leadership Team and the AVID Site Team.
The Impact Metrics are:
60 percent of all 8th grade students are enrolled in at least one course of rigor; and
70 percent of all 7th grade and 8th grade students are taking a pre-collegiate exam.
Congratulations goes out to these schools for this noteworthy accomplishment!
