OMSD is extremely proud to announce that all 32 schools in the district have received the "California PBIS Community Cares" Award for 2019-2020!
The California PBIS Coalition (CPC) believes it is important to reflect on and share the positive experiences districts, schools, and educators have delivered to students and communities during these challenging times of COVID-19 pandemic. To honor the positive impacts schools are playing in the lives of California’s students, families and communities the CPC recognizes schools that provide services and support during these unprecedented times. The CPC has developed a one-year-only “California PBIS Community Cares” recognition program to acknowledge and honor schools in this important work.
“On behalf of the Ontario-Montclair Board of Trustees, I am pleased and honored that all of our fabulous 32 schools are being recognized for their outstanding contributions of support and care for our community during this challenging COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting disruptions to schools. Their heroic efforts to provide support through a variety of efforts did not go unnoticed by the Board of Trustees and now to be recognized at a state level is just terrific,” stated OMSD Board President Elvia M. Rivas.
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success. Research shows that a school’s climate strongly influences students' motivation to learn and improves academic achievement. When school members feel safe, valued, cared for, respected, and engaged, learning increases. Essentially, a positive school climate provides the foundation on which instruction will occur and all students will learn, therefore, the implementation of positive behavior intervention techniques is paramount for our schools’ and students’ success.
