Caleb Rodriguez Wins County Schools Spelling Bee,
Now Headed to the Scripps National Spelling Bee

On Wednesday, March 24, 2021, Caleb Rodriguez, an eighth grade student from Edison Academy of Differentiated Learning, was named the champion of the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools Spelling Bee.

Each participant was given 30 minutes to spell up to 50 words. Caleb correctly spelled 44 words out of 50, earning him the title of “Champion” and making him eligible to compete in the 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee. This year’s National Spelling Bee will consist of several virtual spelling rounds starting this spring. In July, 2021, the top spellers in the nation will advance to the final Spelling Bee round to be held in Orlando, Florida.

Elvia M. Rivas, OMSD Board of Trustees President commented, “Caleb Rodriguez is an amazing student. We are so proud of his efforts and I know he will represent OMSD with distinction at the national competition. This is a reminder to all that our kids are resilient and extraordinary, even in the midst of a pandemic, they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. Congratulations to Caleb and his family.”
