About Moreno Elementary
-
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to Moreno AVID Academy. We serve a diverse population of approximately 600 students from preschool through sixth grade. Additionally, Moreno is an integrated school which serves physically handicapped and non-handicapped students.
To help ensure all students experience a safe and welcoming learning environment we are a Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports School, which we call PBIS. We are excited to announce that we are a recipient of the Gold Medal Award from our last year’s implementation of PBIS. The focus is on three very important behavior expectations school-wide. They are to be Respectful, be Responsible, and to be Kind.
We have also been an AVID Elementary School for the past 7 years. Our trained staff prepares our students with organizational tools and note-taking skills. Our teachers and administrators are highly qualified and have received extensive training to learn about the AVID components and strategies to help our students become college and career ready. As an AVID elementary school, we teach our students to become academic scholars through organizational strategies, note-taking skills, inquiry, collaboration, reading, and writing. They provide students with several opportunities for collaboration, critical thinking, reading, and writing throughout the day and across curricula. Moreno AVID Academy has a strong college going culture. Each year we dedicate a week to becoming more college and career aware. Students will be taught what it takes to be successful as a student and in life. AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing ALL students for college readiness and success in a global society. The staff a Moreno is dedicated to ensuring that your child is prepared for Junior High, High School, College, and beyond. This is not a dream; it is a reality. AVID is going to help us get there.
Throughout the year, extra-curricular activities are offered to support the whole child. We offer an after school Chess Club, and a Computer Coding Club to engage students with technology while showing them the potential of a career path. Sports clubs such as basketball, track, and soccer are available seasonally.
Thanks to the efforts of the staff, parents, and students, we have become one community with caring and supportive members who strive for the best possible learning environment for all students to succeed and flourish.
