  • The Ontario-Montclair School District is offering a Virtual Summer School Program.

This summer, students have a unique opportunity to participate in a newly available interactive and innovative Virtual Summer Program designed to support individual student academic success as they work on earning points for prizes as they complete a variety of activities while engaging in math and language arts.  Students participating in the OMSD Virtual Summer Program, will be able to use a district Chromebook to work in the summer program exclusively available to our students.  This means students that currently have an OMSD device and are committed to enrolling in the fall, will be able to continue using their Chromebook throughout the summer, and students that need access to a device will be able to check one out subject to availability for the duration of the summer.  Chromebooks are to be returned if students are in 8th grade or do not plan to return to an OMSD school or do not plan to participate in the Virtual Summer School. Interested students must complete the application form at, then click the Virtual Summer School and complete the application form by May 21, 2020.  Students interested and do not have a device may apply and have a device checked out pending availability.

Vernon Collection/Distribution Dates

  • Students and Families:

Please see below for dates and times of pickup and drop off of items.

We have received a lot of questions for items that are addressed below so please read this document in its entirety before emailing questions to me, as they will likely be answered below:

    • Should I bring my student?- It is recommended that our students accompany the adult. Getting items out of a locker will take significantly longer if the parent is the one attending and does not know the locker number or combination, causing a hold up in the line.
    • Can students come alone without an adult?- yes an adult does not need to be present with the student.
    • Can families take photos for promotion? We will have a photo opportunity set up outside of campus close to the front office. Families will be allowed to take photos there. Only 1 adult will be permitted onto campus per student.

Items to bring with you on your assigned date and time:

    • All textbooks (Language Arts and Social Studies)
    • Any library books that you have borrowed
    • Laptop and charger

    • Gate will be open by the MPR during the dates and times below
    • All visitors must wear a mask in order to enter campus
    • No more than 1 adult per student allowed on campus
    • Students will receive a ½ sheet of paper with stations to visit as they enter the gate
    • Students need to return laptop and charger (this will happen in the quad by the music room), return library and textbooks (this will happen in the library), and get items out of their locker BEFORE they will receive final grades and promotion certificates (8th graders)
    • If you are a 7th grader and planning on attending summer school and keeping your laptop, please ensure that the online application is completed prior to Tuesday. You can find this application on the district website
    • Grades and certificates will NOT be distributed until all items have been returned. That is the last station you will visit.
    • All classrooms will be open for students to get any belongings you may have left in the classroom (or to say hello to your teachers). Only a maximum of 3 students will be allowed in a classroom at a time
    • There will not be any makeup days for distribution or collection, you must attend one of these dates.
    • Any unclaimed PE items will be donated to Goodwill

Letter regarding Semester 2 Grading - Distance Learning

  • Parent Letter Resources

     Dear OMSD Families, As we continue to support the statewide guidelines to protect the health and safety of our community against COVID-19, we want to thank you for your partnership in providing Distance Learning to your child/ren. Governor Newsom has asked educators in California to “continue delivering high-quality educational opportunities to students to the extent feasible through, among other options, distance learning and/or independent study.” Furthermore, Governor Newsom said, “Schools may be closed - but learning continues.” As our partners, we want to offer some guidance and resources on how you can support your children with their learning through these school closures. Vernon has multiple ways of communicating with students and families. These include but not limited to: School Loop, Twitter, Instagram (@vernonpanthers), Google Classroom for each teacher, our Vernon school website, Connect Ed recorded phone calls, and personal phone calls. Our attendance window is also open every Monday from 8:30-10:30 if you need technology assistance or any other assistance that cannot be done over the phone. Please keep in mind that a face mask must be worn at all times for the safety of yourself and others. We do still have some laptops available in the event you do not have access to technology. We are no longer handing out paper packets at our site. Those students that do not have access to wifi will be mailed a paper packet home from our district in the coming week. Each of our teachers has created a Classroom Learning Plan which includes: ○ The curriculum the teacher will be using, and how instruction will be delivered for students with online access and for those without; ○ Weekly teacher feedback and learning updates to students and their families, more information with be forthcoming on grading and report cards; ○ Weekly communication with families, so please try to return messages from teachers to ensure successful home-school connections. Each week, our teachers will send a Student Learning Plan which includes: ○ Learning schedule and instructional guidance for your child; ○ Student feedback on their learning;

Support for students, including students with disabilities and English learners, who need additional help. Families, please continue to support your child’s Distance Learning by regularly communicating with their teacher. Please direct your questions on Distance Learning to your classroom teacher. Your teacher will help you access resources and troubleshoot technical issues with you and if he/she is not able to help, will make the appropriate referral to our District staff to assist. The District’s Distance Learning webpage, found on, has updated information within the ‘Parent/PEC’ and ‘Student’ portals to support learning such as ZOOM video-conferencing guidelines, academic resources and links to social-emotional and community resources. Please continue to look for updates by frequently checking the District’s website at Link to Zoom Guidelines English Link to Zoom Guidelines Spanish Superintendent’s FAQ Remote Learning Notice English Remote Learning Notice Spanish I know that this is a difficult time and the Distance Learning concept is new for students, parents and teachers. Please know that we are here to support every step of the way, so please don’t hesitate to reach out. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay connected. We miss you all! With love, Ms. Medeiros-Tovar, Principal
