Mr. Gormaz
Dear Edison Academy Parents and Guardians,
I am honored and humbled to be your principal. My name is Mauricio Gormaz and I am very excited to join Edison in the service of our students and community. I was born in Santiago, Chile, am a fluent Spanish speaker and am a product of an immigrant, hardworking family and a public education system which believed in me. I know what is possible when a world class school system serves families and students who have dreams to succeed. I am eager to work alongside each of you, our teachers and our support staff in making a positive impact for your child, our school and our community.
My interest in education was ignited by my mom, who was a kindergarten teacher in Chile. She worked hard to be an instructional assistant in Simi Valley and while she was never able to earn her teaching credential here in the U.S., she inspired me to earn my teaching credential after I graduated from U.C.L.A. I was a teacher for many years and my love of teaching led to my transition into school administration. Since 2008, I have served as principal at both Mission Elementary and Serrano Middle School in the Ontario-Montclair School District. Together, both schools provided me with invaluable experience in grades that span TK – 8. My experience at Mission and Serrano affirmed my belief that the most valuable resource kids have is the school staff who are entrusted to support their growth and development.
I believe in the success of each student who enrolls at Edison and will always be guided by what is best for our students. My commitment to each of you is that I will have an open-door policy, be transparent in my decision-making and do my very best to continue to support the outstanding achievements that Edison students, staff and families have already accomplished. I am committed to continuing to build on the exemplary programs and use this first year to learn about what makes Edison special and what is important to you. I will work hard every day to create a welcoming and kind school environment where we all share high expectations of each other. I will make sure we celebrate our successes together and find joy in learning. I look forward to meeting each of you in person in the very near future.
Respectfully,
Mauricio Gormaz
