Mrs. Sultana Dixon
Dear Monte Vista Families,
I am very excited to begin the 2022/2023 school year and would like to welcome all returning and new students and parents to Monte Vista Elementary School. Our staff is filled with dedicated personnel who are committed to ensure that our students achieve academic success in a caring, safe and supportive environment. Monte Vista's goal is to provide the high quality instruction, tools and support necessary to prepare our students for College and Career Readiness.
The home and school connection is vital to the success of our students, and we are committed to developing those relationships. From the front office to the classroom, we welcome frequent communication and encourage your involvement and input into your child's educational experience. We have many activities and committees in which we encourage parents to participate. Parents are encouraged to become school partners on our School Site Council and our Parent Teacher Organization. Throughout the year, we will host school and community events such as; Picnic on the Playground, Family Literacy and Movie Nights.
Parents, students and school staff are essential partners as we work together to create and maintain a positive and respectful school culture. We encourage students to develop and demonstrate individual responsibility and self-discipline as we put an end to school bullying. Our PBIS schoolwide expectations (Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible) as well as the procedures of the school are adhered to closely in order to facilitate a school culture of safety, fairness and respect for all members of the educational community.
Monte Vista's commitment to high academic standards has enabled our school to show continuous progress. We have been recognized by the California Business of Education Excellence as a Honor Roll School for 2011, 2012, 2014, 2017, & 2019. We accomplished this recognition because Monte Vista stood well above the other schools in getting students to grade level proficiency and beyond after extensive analysis of student achievement data for every public school in California. Our 2018-2019 SBAC results show Monte Vista performing above the State's average in Language Arts and Math. Monte Vista continues to be recognized as a "high performing" school.
During the 2022/2023 school year, we will continue to fully implement the Common Core Curriculum at all grade levels. The focus of our instruction is to ensure all students meet or exceed grade leve standards. Parents will be updated on student progress during parent conference meetings.
We truly value a close connection between school and home and encourage you to contact us with any concerns.
Sincerely,
Sultana Dixon, Principal
