A proud alumna of Bon View Elementary School. Her service to OMSD began when she was a student since her mother, Iris Tramp was one of the first District Reading Specialists and as a student, Mrs. Brooks would often help tutor in her mother’s classroom. For the last 19 years in OMSD, Mrs. Brooks has taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, served as a Reading Coach, a Data Coach, and for the last few years she has served as an Outreach Consultant. Mrs. Brooks is inspired by her mother who instilled in her the love of reading, and also by former OMSD principal Mrs. Linda Rice. Linda’s philosophy is to “always treat people with respect and truly listen and truly care about each individual.” Mrs. Brooks states that over the years she has tried to emulate Linda Rice’s example when interacting with people. When asked what advice she would give to educators, Mrs. Brooks said that it is our job as educators to help OMSD students to be the best they can be and to strive above and beyond for every student. She said we need to find the potential in every student. As educators, we should be the people who make a difference in our students’ lives. Mrs. Brooks defines excellence as a talent or quality that surpasses ordinary standards. Mrs. Brooks is always looking for ways to improve or solve a problem. She is constantly setting new goals and always strives beyond ordinary standards. For Mrs. Brooks, excellence is providing the best services possible for OMSD students and families because they deserve the very best. For these reasons, the Ontario-Montclair School District proudly recognizes Mrs. Heather Brooks as a 2017 Model of Excellence. Her commitment to excellence is evident through her relentless service, dedication, and belief in OMSD students, educators, parents, and community.
